Matthew Tukaki has been described as a serial entrepreneur behind start-ups such as social investment business The Sustain Group (2010), Australia’s first online retailer Samsung Consumables (2002), software and knowledge management business Dattatech (2002), Voice XML tech start-up Syntropy Systems, student management software business MXL and more recently one of the fastest growing networks for entrepreneurs and start-up business, the EntreHub.org.
In between Matthew has also led the world’s oldest employment company, Drake Australia (leading it through the global financial crisis of 2009/10) as well as sitting on a number of public and private sector boards. He is the current Chair of Australia’s Deakin University’s Research Institute, CSaRO and was the first person appointed by the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, to occupy the ex-officio Director of the Board role representing more than 100 countries in 2013 (the United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate citizenship movement).
Matthew has led or been involved in the development of strategies to engage into regional markets such as Asia and the Middle East and knows the importance of getting both strategy and business planning right. Most recently he has been behind a new movement to ensure business start-ups and entrepreneurs know how to combine capital raising with the new world of crowd funding and the significance of pre-developing social media strategies to support them.
Matthew left New Zealand nearly 15 years ago with a credit card and a back pack and has since built a reputation for being a high calibre business leader, entrepreneur, respected social investor and supporter of a number of great causes from the environment to suicide prevention and mental health. Now resident in Sydney, Australia, Matthew travels the world talking start-up ideas and entrepreneurship.
