    Premier in back down over greyhound racing ban

    The New South Wales State Government and its Premier Mike Baird have back flipped on the decision to ban greyhound racing in the State from 2017. In a prolonged and clearly uncomfortable press conference for the Premier the change of heart will provide a stay of execution for an industry that was facing heavy losses and job cuts as a result of the ban. In 2016 an inquiry found that greyhound dogs and animals had been poorly treated after an ABC Four Corners investigation into the industry. Since the ban was announced several months ago the Government has been under sustained pressure to change the decision including intense lobbying by Coalition partner, the Nationals. A former Premier has been appointed to monitor the industry.
