When it happens it can come as a complete shock to a lot of people – getting sacked from your job. In actual fact some of the most obvious signs are the ones we just don’t see! Here are my top five!
Your security card doesn’t work at the front door of the office block
“Hi its Tom here..ummm…I’m doing stairs and my card isn’t working. Can someone let me in?” Awkward! This happens a lot in the US when someone is about to get the sack they tend to get locked out. In fact, it could be the case that you’re in the office having a meeting with HR, they tell you they are letting you go and someone is waiting with an empty box when you get back to your desk! Has it happened to you or someone you know?
You’re out of the loop
One day you’re in the loop next day you’re out of it. Over short space of time you get closer and closer to the exit as your responsibilities begin to dwindle and you find yourself on the outer. In many cases the employer isn’t necessarily wanting to sack you; instead they’d prefer you just to resign
Your job has become obsolete
This is where employers don’t always want to let you go and be forced to pay redundancy – some try and play the waiting game whereby you say “I can’t take this anymore I’m leaving and going somewhere else.” Sometimes it pays to outwait the waiter!
The relationship with the boss has gone down hill
You have two types of bosses in this scenario – the ones who smile at you, tell you you’re doing a great job and then stab you in the back and those who just don’t like you and let you know it. In many cases the employee will decide to move on. The brave ones stick it out and just get on with the job and tend to outwait the angry boss. In fact, in those cases, the boss sometimes ends up being the one that moves on.
No real need to explain – your gut just tells you its time to go. It could be that Christmas party thing you did, the bundle of paperwork you’ve hidden in the desk, the boss who is a clown or whatever – the truth is a lot of do in fact have a gut feel all is not well but convince ourselves it’s all rainbows and unicorns. It’s hardly ever rainbows and unicorns.
